The River Runs Through It. This piece contains clay from several locations along the River Thames. It is mounted on scaffolding brackets found on the foreshore below Battersea Power Station.
The Battersea Vessel: inspired by the regeneration of Battersea power station and incorporating clay from the beach below the power station and maps and drawings of its location.
Etiad 1: Clay from a spoil heap in a car-park outside the Manchester City ground has given some remarkable colours.

Geomorphography: the study of place and story
This project is about creating a series of works which speak more clearly of a place. I am calling this Geomorphography. I use Porcelain in these pieces but I then incorporate materials such as clay from the foundations of building works and spoil heaps or smashed up bricks or stone from an old building then I provide clues about the origins of the materials by using ceramic transfers in the interiors.
My first exploration into this way of working came from a small hamlet near Alton in Hampshire, the second used Battersea Power Station as inspiration. Both of these vessels are now in their new homes. Exhibiting in Manchester tempted me to explore this way of working again and gave rise to several new beautiful clay collaborations. I have since worked on ideas for wedding presents and house extensions and I would be happy to discuss other commissions based on your special place.
Ord Ban Vessel
Ord Ban, Scotland: the map shows the location of an important place for the new owners of this vessel. This is where he proposed to her!
Wyck Vessel, 1: characterised by a simple line, the architect’s transit through the building.
Wyck Vessel 2: the greensand clay works particularly well with the porcelain. The maps and drawings in the interior give the location of the clay.
